  • AL: Can you remember any of your first readings? And the first thing you wrote?

DJ: I remember very vividly The Neverending Story, The Lord of the Rings y The Name of the Rose

The first thing I wrote was a short story titled, A vital matter, in which a character waits on the platform for the subway to arrive, but is told that it is delayed due to technical problems that he associates with a person who has jumped the train. The protagonist is outraged by the person's selfishness in getting in the way of other people's important affairs. When the subway finally arrives, the protagonist jumps onto the tracks.

Authors, customs and genres

  • AL: A leading author? You can choose more than one and from all periods.

DJ: My favorite author in crime fiction is Henning Mankell and currently I have a long list of national authors who are a reference: JJuan Gomez-Jurado, Cesar Perez Gellida, Dolores Redondo, Blas Ruiz Grau, Lorena Franco o Santiago Diaz.

  • AL: What character would you have liked to meet and create?

DJ: I would have liked to meet Sherlock Holmes, with his deductive ability. And I would have liked to create the character of Lisbeth Salander: I love his social shock, his direct reasoning and his sense of justice.

  • AL: Any special habits or habits when it comes to writing or reading?

DJ: I don't have any special mania, although I usually accompany writing with music from soundtracks.

  • AL: And your preferred place and time to do it?

DJ: My favorite moment is the night and the place is indifferent to me because with the portable I move around different places (although there must be some calm).

  • AL: What other genres do you like?

Apart from the crime genre, I also like historical novel.

Current outlook

  • AL: What are you reading now? And writing?

DJ: I'm done The babe, by Carmen Mola, and I have enjoyed it very much. And I am writing a crime novel set in a small coastal town.

  • AL: How do you think the publishing scene is?

DJ: I think he has a good health, with publishing houses specialising in specific genres and also the options offered by digital books. At a national level, there are very well-established writers who are even capable of attracting fans (as if they were a footballer).

  • AL: How do you feel about the current moment we live in?

DJ: Well, though I am worried about the pace of life that we carry because of that constant acceleration and immediacy in obtaining things. And, at the same time, that immediacy has been transferred to leisure and enjoyment, and that, in turn, has consequences on reading and attention, since reading requires time, pause and reflection.
