40% of Spaniards spend a year without reading a book

books-summer

We are going to end the week in a sad way in Spain. At least for those of us who care about Culture. According the CIS, in Spain about a 40% of Spaniards have not read a book in the last year. A very negative result that seems to be becoming a trend in our country.

The percentage of respondents who have stated that they have not read a book in the last year amounts to 39,4% of a total of 2.184 respondents. Users who read regularly amounted to 27,9% but only 8,8% have read more than 12 books a year. The good news, if something good can come from here, is el percentage of users who visit a library or bookstore, reaching 75% of those surveyed. Something interesting for these institutions that after a long time see how they are revived and begin to be used as centers of culture that they are. But the truth is that of those visits, few users buy a book and then read it or directly borrow it and read it.

Young people do not have the habit of reading a book a year

The ages of readers indicated in this report are also worrisome. The CIS report indicates that all those who read regularly are not minors, but rather they are adults who read regularly and without any pressure. Which comes to say that the young people of the country do not read a book regularly or even in a year.

If we take these data into account, it seems that the future of our country is quite dark because the inhabitants of the future will not read any books. But fortunately the surveys no longer reflect reality and this does not mean that we Spaniards do not read, although it does warn us of what may happen in the not too distant future.
